Workshop: Big Data Indonesia for MSMEs 2020
The Big Data and Business Analytics Laboratory at SBM ITB, in collaboration with Shibaura Institute of Technology, Fesmus, and Kazee, organized a workshop on Big Data Indonesia for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
Big Data processing systems have begun to be adopted by some businesses. Proper Big Data processing greatly helps business actors make decisions. In addition, the results of Big Data processing produce highly useful information.
However, for some MSMEs, implementing Big Data systems and processing data using technology is still very difficult. This is caused by several factors, such as the need for large costs, the absence of data processing experts in a company, and a lack of knowledge and awareness about the importance of Big Data processing for MSMEs.
Therefore, introducing the importance of Big Data and alternative solutions that can be used to process Big Data is essential for MSMEs.
Three Main Challenges for MSMEs: HR, Marketing, and Capital
The event featured academics and practitioners as speakers and panelists:
• Dr. Eng. Manahan Siallagan — Director of the Big Data Analytics and Social Simulation Laboratory at SBM ITB
• Santi Noviani, Ph.D — Secretary of Entrepreneurship at LPIK ITB
• I Made Ariya Sanjaya — CEO of Kazee
• Yogie Setiafriawan — Founder of Fesmus
• Ir. Eri Nurjaman — Head of Micro and SME Division, Cooperative for Micro and Small Business, Bandung City
• Tris Avianti — Head of Creative Economy Division, Bandung City Culture and Tourism Office
“Three challenges for MSMEs are human resources, marketing, and capital. These then become three areas that need to be focused on so that MSMEs do not only survive, but also remain sustainable,” said Dr. Eng. Manahan Siallagan.
Collaboration Between Academics, Government, and Society
According to Santi Noviani, Ph.D, MSMEs play a strategic role for the region.
“MSMEs contribute greatly to regional income, absorb labor, and attract foreign tourists. Therefore, collaboration between academics, government, and society is needed to advance MSMEs in Indonesia,” she said.
Many speakers at the event wanted to contribute to the development of MSMEs in Indonesia, such as by creating platforms, giving seminars, offering free consultations, and more.
Furthermore, they aim to develop MSMEs in Indonesia through incubation clinics to increase their sales with the help of big data.
